Welcome to Mrs. Katzmark's Spot
My name is Gloria Katzmark. I am the Jr. High Science Teacher at Little Flower Catholic School in Springfield, Illinois. I teach a General Science curriculum to sixth, seventh and eighth graders. I have been married for 39 years and have two children - Colleen and Christopher and have six grandchildren. I am a graduate of Eastern Illinois University. We are an education based family as my husband is a retired school administrator, and my daughter is a preschool teacher. My son is a high school PE teacher. I have been a classroom teacher for thirty-seven years and have taught jr. high science for twenty.-eight. I am considered to be a highly qualified teacher by the state of Illinois. Science is taught with a hands-on approach. Little Flower is proud to have a science lab that is equipped with materials to allow students the opportunity to explore, discover and formulate questions about science. Time is spent in creating their own experiments which further enhances their critical thinking skills. The sixth graders start with learning basic science skills using the metric system and scientific method. Topics covered are types of energy, geology, weather and climate and botany. Seventh graders are introduced to chemistry, genetics, microbiology and basic physics skills. Eighth graders continue their science education with astronomy, environmental biology, chemistry, physics and earth science.
